U.S. lawmakers warn Nigerian government against further shift of elections

US House of Representatives
US House of Representatives
The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee has passed a unanimously bipartisan legislation to condemn the activities of the insurgent group in Nigeria, Boko Haram.
The Committee, chaired by U.S. Representative, Ed Royce, lambasted the group over its bloody attacks, which has left thousands of citizens dead, while several hundreds of thousands of others have been displaced from their homes.
The Committee also highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s forthcoming elections, stressing the dire consequences of any further shift in the schedule.
Specifically, the legislation introduced by a Representative, Robin Kelly, condemned Boko Haram, describing its series of attacks on innocent men, women, and children in northeastern Nigeria as ‘cowardly’.
In spite of the activities of Boko Haram, which has posed serious security concerns and threat to the elections, the lawmakers urged the Nigerian government to do everything to ensure it held a safe and credible election without further delay.
In addition, the legislation applauded the efforts of the African Union to raise a standing regional force to combat Boko Haram and expresses support for a robust security assistance to the new force.
After the resolution was passed, the Committee Chairman said: “It’s no wonder that Boko Haram is being called the ISIS of Africa.”
He recalled that in January, Boko Haram had launched one of its worst attacks, which saw thousands of innocent citizens killed, adding that the Committee resolution condemned in its entirety those brutal attacks.
The lawmakers encouraged the Nigerian government to continue to work with the United States and the neighbouring countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroun to defeat the bloody group, pointing out that the government needed to ensure that the new coalition forces authorized by the African Union has the tools needs to get the job done.
This resolution also urged the Nigerian government to avoid further shift in the election schedule and adhere to the new election time table of March 28 for presidential and National Assembly elections.
The elections for the governors and the members of the various state legislatures is scheduled for April 11.
Besides, the lawmakers also called on all the candidates of the various political parties to uphold their commitments to prevent political violence, which they noted was not “uncommon in Nigeria.”
Last year, the Committee, during a hearing entitled, “Boko Haram: The Growing Threat to Schoolgirls, Nigeria, and Beyond”, critically examined the President Goodluck Jonathan administration’s response to the insurgent activities of Boko Haram.”
Prior to the hearing, the Chairman met with Deborah Peter, a 15-year-old girl from Chibok community, where nearly about 234 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram.
Ms. Peter was the first female survivor of a Boko Haram attack to visit Washington, D.C.

Goodluck Jonathan’s 8th Presidential Media Chat – Live Updates

President Goodluck Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan
Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, is hosting his eight presidential media chat since May 2011.
The challenges confronting Nigeria – insecurity, the economy, corruption, dearth of infrastructure – are still largely the same issues the administration is grappling with since his first media chat in September 2011.
Insecurity has worsened since the last media chat. The 250 schoolgirls kidnapped in Chibok, south of Borno state have not been found. Boko Haram attacks have escalated and a large portion of Nigeria is now under the control of the terrorists. Last month was particularly bloody with reports of over 2000 killed during a take over of Baga by the terrorists.
Issues surrounding the 2015 general elections, recently postponed, purportedly for security reasons, and the falling oil prices, will be the new entrants to the discussion.
The presidency promised to receive questions from Nigerians via telephone during the live program. In the past, telephone lines provided hardly got across to the president work during live episodes of the programme.
In case you are able to reach the president on the programme today, PREMIUM TIMES suggest you put these questions to him, in addition to others you might have.
The Twitter handle @mediachatng1 can also be used to throw in questions during the chat.
PREMIUM TIMES will bring you live updates from the media chat, as it progresses, here. Join the discussion on twitter using #presmediachat.

The presidential media chat has started. It was opened by a brief speech by the president. Questioning have swiftly moved into the postponed elections. The president sought the understanding of the international community over the postponed elections. He said the kind of scenarios where elections are postponed for the sake of perpetuating power is not the case in Nigeria.
19.18
The president is asked why he thinks the war against Boko Haram can be won in six weeks even though the war had raged for six years. The president said he has just acquired new weapons, and gotten support of neigbhouring countries to fight Boko Haram. He mentioned that Chad waited for African Union approval, which they recently got too. He also mentioned that the issue of security is beyond Boko Haram. The president said it runs into dangerous signals of youth restiveness.
19.24
Do you have confidence in Jega to conduct the 2015 elections? The president said he wished Jega was seated by his side to answer the question. One of the interviewers interjected that he (Jega) is watching. He blames his supporters for rumours about Jega's resignation. "I have not told anybody that I will remove Jega," he said. He explained that if there are obvious reasons to remove Jega, he would rely on "constitutional" provisions that gives him powers to sack whoever he appoints.
19.24
In the next four weeks Nigerians will see the difference in the security intervention in the North- Jonathan
19.25
On Jega: I wish Jega were here, I could have asked him to answer whether I have confidence in him Yes those who called for his sack may be close to me, but they express their own opinion. More than 80 per cent of those who sponsor messages on our behalf we don't even know them. People use the reschedule of election to misinform Nigerians.
19.26
I have never thought about removing INEC Chairman, though I have the constitutional power to do so
19.26
The level of misinformation, especially from young people is high
19.28
"Attempting to attack the president is treasonable offence. The president is protected by soldiers, not just the police. People get carried away and make some provocative statements."
19.31
"Those who pelted my convoy during my campaigns in the Northern part of the country were ignorant. If INEC conducts the election poorly, it will be on my head."
19.31
The next question is about hate speeches and political violence by both opposition and ruling party members. The president explained that "some people" get carried away by the political play and exude these violence. He blamed aides and associates of key political actors for the hate speeches and political violence. He did not categorically condemn the hate speeches or war threats or politically-motivated violence. "We will make sure things are done so that nobody goes to war," the president said when he pressed for categorical stance on the war threats by ex-millitants should he lose the elections. He argues journalists have responsibility to ensure the unity of the country.
19.33
The president is asked why he frequents churches for campaign but never visited mosques. He responded by saying he does not receive invitations from Muslims.
19.38
The president is asked if election would hold should the military fails to eliminate Boko Haram in six weeks. The presidents said the new dates are scrosanct and a new president would be sworn in by May 29. He argued that the goal is not to totally eliminate Boko Haram but to make adequate security arrangement for the election.
19.42
Questioning moves to the issue of the president's perceived weak support especially as it relates to the missing Chibok girls. "Just give us some times," he said, responding to questions seeking the state of the girls at the moment. The president is optimistic the girls would be rescued with the new military collaboration with neighbouring countries. "I believe the story would be different in a few weeks," the president said. "We would recover them alive." With regards to his weakened political base, the president said "in politics, there are only permanent interests."
19.51
The president is asked to clarify his previous comments that "stealing is not corruption" He said he made that statement quoting the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Dahiru Mustafa, who explained to him that his analysis of corruption cases in Nigeria showed that most of such cases were theft. He argued that referring to stealing as corruption minimizes the crime. "Ole (thief in Yoruba) should be called Ole and given that treatment," the prewsident said. "Let us communicated properly. The word corruption, we have abused it."
19.53
"It is not actually my quotation. I quoted the former Chief Justice," as he continues to defend his previous comments on corruption and stealing.
19.56
Chibok Girls: I belief the story of Chibok Girls will get better in the next few weeks, but don't quote me. We are working with our neighbours, we will comb the whole of that place Partying after abduction? It's unfortunate that people play politics with the issue of Chibok girls. It's not like that elsewhere. In other countries, political boundaries collapse in the face of terror attacks, not so in Nigeria.
19.57
The state of the N1 billion security loan and funds confiscated in South Africa. He said the government have not started disbursing the N1 billion loan. With regards to the .3 million arms money seized in South Africa, he said the money does not belong to Nigeria, technically. He added that the matter was in court.
19.57
We have convicted more corrupt people than ever. It is just that Nigerians are confused on what the difference is between stealing and corruption.
19.58
The president is asked where he bought arms for the coming onslaught on Boko Haram. He said they managed to get from other sources other than America.
20.02
The president is asked if he would hand over if he loses the next election. "If the elections are conducted and I lose, of course, another president would be sworn in," the president said. He argued that Nigeria is more important than any individual.
20.07
The president, still answering questions on security said Boko Haram is faceless and factionalized.
20.10
The president is asked what he will do differently if he wins. He said most of the problem he had in the past is related to perception and not concrete. He did not really say what he would do differently.
20.14
The president is asked to comment on his opponent for the 2015 general election. The preaident responded it was an unfair question. He however mentioned that he has recieved more criticism that Muhammadu Buhari on social media.
20.16
The president is asked if he has confidence in INEC as presidently constituted. He answered sayimg he appointed everyone at the management level of INEC.
20.18
In his closing remarks, the presaident assured Nigerians that elections would be conducted and a new president sworn in on May 29. He argued that it is better for INEC to conduct an election eberyone woukd be happy with.

Following a grueling eight-hour meeting on Thursday,Nigeria’s National Council of State emphatically rejected a proposal by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to postpone the 2015 general elections.
The Council of Nigeria
The meeting was Mr. Jonathan’s final open effort to rescue an election that seems to have got away from him very quickly.
Under the Nigerian constitution, the Council advises executive branch, and is chaired by the President. Other members are the Vice-President, who is the Deputy Chairman; all former Presidents of the Federation and all former Heads of the Government of the Federation; all former Chief Justices; the President of the Senate; the Speaker of the House of Representatives; all State Governors; and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Also at Thursday’s meeting was the chairman of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).
President Jonathan cited security concerns and lack of preparedness by INEC as his reasons for seeking postponement of the elections.
Our presidency sources at the meeting said that all the former Heads of State spoke in favor of holding the general elections on February 14th and February 28th 2015, as scheduled by the electoral commission. Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, also spoke calmly but firmly against the proposal.
However, when it was Jega’s time to speak, he shocked the meeting by disclosing that just before he entered the Council chambers, the president’s National Security Advisor, Col.  Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), had handed him a report saying that the security services could not guarantee security during the elections.  Dasuki, he stated, emphasized that 14 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the North East would be compromised.
Presidency sources inside the meeting tell SaharaReporters that Jega responded the security questions, stating “We are better off [more secure] than in 2011” elections. He also argued that the security situation in 14 LGAs should not interfere with acountry of over 700 such councils.
Professor Jega also said that all Permanent Voting Cards (PVCs) were ready for voters and that their availability should no longer be considered an issue. Our sources say that when Jega finishing giving his presentation, the majority of the room clapped in support and respect.
One source disclosed to SaharaReporters that after Jega’s presentation, aides to President Jonathan sent a signal to Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, Alex Ekwueme and Senator Okunrounmu to release a “dossier” that was in the possession of the group against Jega. That group then quickly organized a press conference in Abuja to demand Jega’s removal from INEC and get himarrested and tried for “treason”.
Contrary to Jega’s positive reception at the Council of State, the group, in a fall-back strategy the president seemed to have approved of in advance, claimed that the INEC boss had colluded with some Northern “leaders” to cheat the South of the presidency.
After today’s meeting the Council of State decided that INEC and the security agencies must hold meetings leading to the elections in order to harmonize and coordinate their activities to ensure that all elections are free and fair starting this month.
The meeting then nominated Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State to brief the press about its decisions.  Governor Rochas Okorocha strategically joined Mimiko at that event to ensure that nothing was added to, or taken away from what Nigerians needed to know.

Jonathan Is Not A Christian, Serves Voodoo And He Looted N32b From Bayelsa State – Frank Akpoebi

image
Frank Akpoebi, a close political associate of President Goodluck Jonathan, declared on Sunday that a whopping N32 billion was missing from the treasury of Bayelsa State Government when Jonathan was governor between 2005 and 2007.
He made the stunning revelation on Sunday at a press conference held at the National Headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja where he gave reasons for his defection and of hundreds of others from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC.
Akpoebi served as Commissioner of Health in Mr. Jonathan’s administration during his governorship.  A founding member of the PDP in Bayelsa, he was also a Federal Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
Of the missing N32 billion, he called on Bayelsans to ask Mr. Jonathan to refund the money before he can ask for their votes again, adding that there had been speculation that he used the money to sponsor himself and late Umaru Yar’Adua in the 2011 election.
“I served in the State Executive Council with Dr, Goodluck Jonathan and I questioned one of his series of contracts he used in siphoning the Bayelsa State treasury was his singular approval of Two Billion Naira for sand stock piling at Yenogoa for Bayelsa indigenes to park and use to start a building project I stood up to oppose it but yet Two Billion Naira was paid but a drop of sand was not dropped.”
He described President Jonathan as incompetent, and as the architect of religion and ethnic politics that have divided many Nigerians.
“This President is the richest President in Africa,” Akpoebi declared. “Dr. Goodluck Jonathann has invested in five business men who are highly celebrated Billionaires in Nigeria. And three of them came back to raise election funds to sponsor him to increase his investment on them while Nigerians will continue to live poverty, deprivation and insecurity. This is a vicious circle that we must not continue with it.”
The Conference was attended Timipreye Silva, another former governor of Bayelsa, Hilland Etah, the National Vice Chairman APC South-South, and other  political stalwart in the State.  He mentioned many other national issues.  He defected to the APC alongside hundreds of PDP Chieftains from Bayelsa State.
It would be recalled that in 2006, before President Obasanjo arbitrarily picked him for the vice-presidency, Mr. Jonathan was one of 15 governors indicted by a federal panel for false declaration of assets, and recommended for prosecution in line with the Code of Conduct Bureau Act.
The powerful inter-agency Joint Task Force on corruption was headed by the then chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu.  Its indictment of Mr. Jonathan was on account of several issues, including Mr. Jonathan’s N18 million Lexus Jeep which he falsely claimed in 2004 he had acquired through savings.
“Verification reveals that the Jeep was a gift collected in contravention of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act of 1990,” the panel said.  “Same for BMW 7351 Series bought in 2005 worth N5.5 million.”
The panel also listed Mr. Jonathan’s acquisition of properties outside legitimate income, including:
Seven Bedroom Duplex acquired in 2001 worth N18 million at Otuke Ogbia LGA;
Four Bedroom Duplex acquired in 2003 worth N15 million at Goodluck Jonathan Street, Yenegoa; and
Five Bedroom Duplex – acquired in 2003 worth N25 million at Citec Villas, Gwarimpa II, Abuja.
Akpoedi also refuted Mr. Jonathan’s claims to being a Christian, saying that as a close friend of the President as admitted by Mr. Jonathan during one of his presidential briefings, he knows for certain Jonathan is no Christian, and that he has admitted he does not know how to forgive.
“Dr. Goodluck Jonathan I know serves voodoo.  And that is what he practices. In 2006 in the dining at the Governor’s Lodge Yenegoa, he did not pray before eating, so I asked him why, he replied me that he has not prayed in his life. I was really worried hearing that from him. The following day we were discussing when Dr.Goodluck  told me he has a weakness and that he does not know how to forgive.
“Dr. Goodluck should desist from using religion or the churches to advance his campaign or adoption, because it will make to expose him further,” Akpedi said.  “We want a country of peace, love and security.”
Here is the full text of his speech at the Conference:
As a founding member of PDP Bayelsa State and funded 60% of the party at its formation between 1988-early 1999. I am well known and respected by politicians within the state and beyond.
The PDP under Dr.Goodluck Jonathan has totally lost Good governance. There are six things he failed in his administration that bothers on my personal integrity, ideology and the interest of our great country-Nigeria.
1         Insecurity
2         Corruption
3         Unemployment
4         Poverty
5         Power (Electricity)
6         Economy (Naira Devaluation)
Above all Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has brought politics of religion, Tribe, North/South dichotomy and hate . Infact, Dr.   Goodluck started exhibiting all these vices when he was Governor of Bayelsa State. As a Deputy Governor,he has some obstacles so when he became Governor, it was a payback  time . He started punishing the ijaws that brought him to power in the state. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan started playing politics of divide and rule.
He also made sure no project goes to any ijaw village and any Ijaw person is empowered in Bayelsa .This he has continued till date . I served in the State Executive Council with Dr, Goodluck Jonathan and I questioned one of his series of contracts he used in siphoning the Bayelsa State treasury was his singular approval of Two Billion Naira (2,000,000,000.00) for sand stock piling at Yenogoa for Bayelsa indigenes to park and use to start a building project I stood up to oppose it but yet Two Billion Naira was paid but a drop of sand was not dropped.
During Dr. Goodluck’s administration Thirty Billion Naira was missing in Bayelsa State Treasury. Bayelsans should ask him to refund this missing money before he should ask them of their votes.  There was speculation that he used the money to sponsor himself and Late Yar’adua in 2011 election. So I called on you Dr.Goodluck Jonathan to return this Thirty Billion and two Two Billion to Bayelsa State before asking for their votes or best explain the whereabouts of these monies.
Much do I know ,that Dr. Goodluck is not a good manager of resources since he is embedded in corruption from when he was the Governor of Bayelsa State. Today our foreign reserve is depleted.  Our  Naira is devalued. Poverty and unemployment is a National Pride .  Insecurity and Nigerian Children, mothers and fathers dying in the North-East and yet he wants the votes of North- East . Is this not insensibility and insult to the people of this zone and by extension and insult to our collective psychic as a nation?  And yet he sponsors some persons
in the Niger Delta Project only and no other part of this country has a right to become President until he finish to divide us, impoverish, oppress, squander our economy and plant corruption as a subject in our schools and we were corruption as toga around the world.
This President is the richest President in the Africa. Dr. Goodluck Jonatahn has invested in five business men who are highly celebrated Billionaires in Nigeria. And three of them came back to raise election funds to sponsors    him to increase his investment on them while Nigerians will  continue to live poverty, deprivation and insecurity, This is a vicious circle that we must not continue with it . Under his divide and rule  Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has infiltrated  my tribe some ijaw youths to agitate that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is all that the Niger Delta can offer but this youths forgot that this President has not giving respect to Ijaw Leaders .
To mention but few ,Prof. Tam David West, Alabo Graham Douglas, Chief Princewell Horsefall , Chief T.K.O Okorotie, HON FynmanWilson,HRM Joshua Igbagara. e.t.c.
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan never appoint any of these Leaders to Federal Appointment nor consult them  regularly for the interest of our tribe and our Nation, Nigeria , Rather the President despises them, insult some of them by singularly paying SOKU Oil We                                                                                                       lls that I put in EXCRO account for Rivers and Bayelsa State while I was Federal Commissioner       Revenue Mobilisation ,Allocation and Fiscal Commission . Now Dr. Goodluck Jonathan wants your votes so that the next four years he will make the Kalabaris non-oil producing   place by forcefully collecting the remaining oil-wells and allocate them to Bayelsa and ask you to go to court that will take fifty years to resolve. The Kalabaris cannot be intimidated, induced or coerced to vote for Goodluck Jonathan by himself or his proxy.”IJAW NATION”   . All the ijaws in Bayelsa State know that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan does not love us .Throughout his six years administration he did not appoint any ijaw son as a Minister. The highest   appointee was Late Gen. Andrew Azazi as National Security Adviser . He was appointed by Dr.Goodluck Jonathan, sacked by him and buried by him.
Recently, we heard that Hon. Seriake Dickson was physically manhandled and beaten by the President Security detail at the Villa. Presently Governor Dickson is the Leader of Ijaw people  due to the office he occupies. So can the Ijaw be so humiliated for their leader beaten up ? As a serving Governor, can this happen ? The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and Ijaw National Council (INC) to carry out independent investigation to unravel the truth.
On Christianity , Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is not a Christian . I am a close friend of Dr.Goodluck Jonathan and he confirmed our friendship during one of his presidential briefing.
Dr.Goodluck Jonathan I know serves voodoo , And that is what he practices . In 2006 in the dining at the Governor’s Lodge Yenegoa, he did not pray before eating, so I asked him why, he replied me that he has not prayed in his life . I was really worried hearing that from him. The following day we were discussing when Dr.Goodluck  told me he has a weakness and that he does not know how to forgive.
The country today is blood, blood , blood and nothing is done. Why? And no solution “ So by their fruit we shall know them”  When the righteous rule, the people  shall rejoice.
Dr.Goodluck should desist from using religion or the churches to advance his campaign or adoption, because it will make to expose him further. We want a country of peace, love and security.
I wish to also thank the 1st Lady who once saved my life in 2006 while I was staying in Government House Bayelsa with  you. APC I am joining today will solve insecurity, corruption, unemployment, poverty, Power, and run a vibrant economy.
Thank you Gentlemen of the Press
Dr. CHIEF FRANK AKPOEBI ,(Former Commissioner for Health Bayelsa State and Former  Federal Commission Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission )

The BIG FAT LIES Of AIT In ‘The Real Buhari’ Documentary EXPOSED!

By on February 1, 2015
hardtalknaija.com AIT-BUHARI
EXPOSING THE 9 BIG FAT LIES OF AIT IN ‘THE REAL BUHARI’ DOCUMENTARY ON TV!
Ordinarily, we can all understand that AIT as a privately owned TV Station, is entitled to collect money to advertise or air anything it wants on its privately owned radio station. However, when it comes to public issues, news or matters affecting the destiny of our nation, it should be a criminal act for a nationally licensed TV Station to allow itself to be used shamelessly to propagate falsehood against a contestant in the Nigerian elections.
The truth is that AIT, as one of the most widely watched TV stations in Nigeria, has a serious responsibility to inform Nigeria only of FACTS, and not be complicit in any nefarious attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of unsuspecting Nigerians, who trust his station to report the news to them daily.
With this betrayal of trust by AIT, one can only thank God that there were people alive and well at the relevant periods in history to debunk the sham being recycled by AIT, and its hatchet men, for filthy lucre. I congratulate all those who have done their fact-checks, people like El Rufai, Gidado and SIrajo Mohammed, and many others like them who have gone out on a limb to put the lie to this travesty occurring in our nation by a supposedly independent TV station.
Since I have learnt NEVER to accept anything at face value in Nigeria anymore, particularly from corrupt journalists and politicians on either side, I have also taken the time to watch the much talked about 55 minute documentary on Mohammed Buhari for myself, to see what the fuss was all about. I have also done my own fact-checks on some of the points raised, and I can say without any fear of contradiction that AIT LIED MANY TIMES IN THAT 55MIN HATCHET JOB ON BUHARI, or was grossly negligent or careless about the truth, in at least 8 or 9 MAJOR ways in  ‘The Real Buhari’ documentary.
As a lawyer who understand the implications of calling anyone a liar, I will give the PROOF right now about the 9 things things that documentary lied about, and then challenge the whole AIT crew, lawyers and owners, to call me out or sue me for libel if they dared.
Each of the Big Fat Lies I have identified are VERIFIABLE facts that people can check for themselves by simply going online and checking the archives, or by searching for newspapers and TV programs for the relevant period. The people at AIT should know by now, that in this internet age, anyone can access information that only few people had previously, WITH VERY LITTLE HARD-WORK,
So, here are the 9 shameful lies that AIT and its reporters who put together that show of shame called a documentary tried to impose on Nigerians:
BIG FAT LIE #1: THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THE MAITATSINE RIOTS STARTED DURING BUHARI REGIME – A simple-fact check online will reveal that the Maitatsine riots started in 1980, and the riots in which over 3,000 people died actually occurred from 1975 -1982, many years before Buhari came to power. In fact, Maitatsine was KILLED in one of the riots in 1980 though some of his adherents still did some damage up to 1984.
Truth be told, unlike the lack luster campaign we have witnessed under Jonathan against the Boko Haram sect, the Maitatsine sect was actually CRUSHED during the Buhari regime, and its leaders scattered to Cameroon, when Buhari sent an overwhelming military force to confront them in 1984. Again, this happened in my school activism days so I know what I am talking about. Also, the objective history books and websites still online support this history. Yet, AIT shamelessly tried to claim that religious riots started under Buhari.
BIG FAT LIE #2.THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED BUHARI EXPELLED GHANIANS FROM NIGERIA – This is also a verifiable lie. Simply Google or ask any Ghanaian old enough at the time. It was President Shehu Shagari of NPN who first expelled over 1,000,000 Ghanaians in 1983 in the infamous ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ inicdent, as some sort of retaliation for what the Ghanaians did to Nigeria in 1969. This was BEFORE Buhari came to power.  You can check the facts yourself from this 1983 story by New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/1983/02/02/world/by-land-and-sea-they-stream-from-nigeria.html
BIG FAT LIE #3. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED GLORIA OKOH, THE DRUG CARIRER DISAPPEARED FROM JUSTICE UNDER BUHARI – Another lie from the pit of hell. We all know the Gloria Okon fake ‘death’ and disappearance saga happened under Ibrahim Babanginda after he overthrew Buhari. In fact, the late Dele Giwa was rumored to have been bombed to eternity AFTER Buhari had been overthrown, for being too nosy about what really happened. I remember very well how Gani Fawehinmi fought a gallant battle to bring the perpetrators to justice. Again, the person most people accused at the time was Ibrahim Babangida, who overthrew Buhari, and NOT Buhari himself.
BIG FAT LIE #4. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED FELA IDENTIFIED BUHARI IN THE $2.8BILLION OIL MONEY SCANDAL IN HIS SONG– This is a big lie. Fela’s song about the missing money is still available EVERYWHERE. I have a copy of it and have listened to it again just in case I didn’t listen well before. Truth is FELA NEVER MENTINED BUHARI’S NAME. He only mentioned OBJ and ABIOLA. Of course the AIT people disingenuously edited that part of the tape out when they played Fela’s music in their documentary. This is definite proof they DELIBERATELY LIED otherwise why not let the song play to the point where names were mentioned?
BIG FAT LIE #5. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THAT BUHARI HAD A HAND IN THE DEATH OF FELA’S MOTHER- FUNMILAYO RANSOME KUTI. Again, a simple fact check by my 6 year old daughter would reveal that Fela’s mother died after Olusegun Obasanjo invaded the KALAKUTA Republic of Fela in 1978. It was OBJ that ordered the house of his former Abeokuta Grammar School mate to be burnt down over his criticism of OBJ government. I remember that one very well because our house was a walking distance from Fela’s shrine then and we all rushed to witness the ‘unknown soldier’ saga play out in living colors and I saw Fela’s mother actually being thrown out of the window from upstairs by soldiers loyal to OBJ. Fela even released a song about it WELL BEFORE Buhari even came power more than 6 years later in 1984.
BIG FAT LIE #6. THE DOCUEMNTARY CLAIMED BUHARI IMPROSONED INNOCENT POLITICIANS. This is one of the most unfortunate lies of the whole sordid documentary. The fact of history shows that All Politicians that was sentenced to prison by the 1984 Military Tribunal were found to either enrich themselves with public funds or diverted public funds. None of them were convicted by fiat. Even the President Jonathan they were trying to help did not really say the politicians were innocent. He only said there should have been a difference between STEALING AND FRAUD! He said someday stole ‘only N5m’ and was given 15 years jail or someone stole money that was not enough to buy a Volkswagen and was sentenced to life. LWKMD! A government thief is a THIEF, whether N1 or N100M. THEY WERE ALL TRIED, not by Buhari but by a properly constituted tribunal. IN any case, how any sane person who was an adult in 1983 could argue that people like Umaru Dikko, Akinloye, Ambrose ALLI and even Ekwueme were innocent is beyond me.
BIG FAT LIE #7. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THAT BUHARI HAS BEEN LOSING SINCE Buhari 1999. This is a lie. Buhari’s first shot was in 2003. In 1999, it was Chief Olu Falae of ANPP/AD that contested against Obj. In any case why does it matter if he contested so many times and lost? Many great leaders have lost countless elections before finally getting a chance. Even the Great Obafemi Awolowo and the Great Nnamdi Azikiwe also contested many times too without winning, but I don’t see AIT criticizing that!
BIG FAT LIE #8. THE DOCUMENTARY CRITICISED BUHARI FOR HIS STEWARDSHIP OF PTF –Yet the truth remains that he was vigorously investigated by the vengeful OBJ and NOTHING was found on him. Even OBJ recently confessed that the Fraud investigation report did not find anything against Buhari. Still that did not stop the lying journalists at AIT from claiming he was corrupt as the PTF leader though they could not show any proof.
BIG FAT LIE #9. THE DOCUMENTARY CLAIMED THAT BUHARI OWNED AND BENEFITED FROM AFRI-PROJECTS CONSORTIUM SCANDALS– While I definitely agree that the Afri-Project Consortium did a poor job with the enormous responsibilities it was given as consultants by the PTF, there is no shred of evidence to suggest that Buhari is one of its owners or that he personally benefited from their operations. It is a testament to the deception behind this hogwash documentary that the narrator kept saying ‘APC’ in its presentation of Afri-Projects Consortium to somehow connect the company with APC on a mental level. What a shame.
The truth behind this big fat lie is that Afri-Projects Consortium Ltd is a registered company in Nigeria and the AIT should have published their Form CO2 AND C07 to show us the real owners. Buhari has constantly challenged everyone to show proof of any ill-gotten wealth in his hands and nobody, including the AIT crew, has been able to do that. The man still lives in a modest house, and remains the only former head of state without mansions in Abuja or elsewhere, and yet these idiots would want us to believe he stole billions of dollars
THE CONCLUSION OF THE MATTER
Having exposed the Big Fat Lies of AIT in this piece, I will like to end by pointing out the poetic justice that nemesis has already meted to Jonathan and AIT for this hatchet job.
Right after running their sham documentary for the umpteenth time, they decided to run a flash poll for Nigerians to choose who their President should be between Jonathan and Buhari. To their shock and amazement, they poll showed that over 70% of the people who voted on the AIT  Poll still preferred Buhari regardless of the shameful lies against him!
With serious egg on their face, and public embarrassment brought on by the fact that their little cheap ploy has backfired, the AIT hurriedly removed the poll and claimed their poll was hacked!
When challenged, they foolishly supplied a text file to show how the ‘hacking was done’. To add insult to injury, some good tech people have been able to demonstrate that AIT even that document of proof of hacking, was forged by AIT too! Yes, in case you have not read it, one of the more reputable Nigerian internet personalities out there, Gbenga Sesan, was able to demonstrate, in black and white examination of the data, that the so-called evidence of ‘hacking’ released by AIT was FORGED! Again, don’t take my word for it, simply go to Gbenga Sesan’s data analysis on his twitter handle to see for yourself.
The fact that President Jonathan and his paid supporters are desperate to win at all costs is all too obvious, even to the blind. It is really annoying that every time you ask Jonathan’s supporters to give you a lucid reason why Jonathan should be returned for another 4 years, all they keep saying is ‘Buhari was a dictator and an Islamist’. Essentially, their strategy remains, ‘Vote for Jonathan because Buhari is bad’. What an embarrassment!
Really, someone needs to tell President Goodluck Jonathan and his hapless strategists that the Red-herring argument will not work this time around. Nigerians have seen Jonathan for what he is in the last 6 years, and no amount of red-herring will change the minds of right thinking people about him. President Jonathan needs to go back to Utueke and let some else try to set the ship of our country straight from the disastrous waters that he, and his Cabal of Corruption, have sailed us into in the last 6 years.
This may be HardTalk, but it is True-Talk nevertheless.

Irked by the increasing manouvres of the terrorists laying claim to Nigeria’s territories, the Nigerian military has finalized plans to conduct a “once and for all comprehensive operations” towards the elimination of Boko Haram terrorists in the parts of North East to the boarders of neighbouring countries. International media and satellite images suggest that areas presently under Boko Haram occupation could already be as large as Belgium.

BBC Nigeria Boko HaramNigerian soldiers Competent sources disclosed to PRNigeria in Abuja that political authorities which now feels so disturbed by the activities of the terrorists especially after viewing the latest video release from the terror group which claimed that it already has enough weapons to take on Nigeria and its neighbours, have endorsed the military plan and expressed full support for it.

According to the source, the determined onslaught has also received the assurance of cooperation and support of Cameroun, Niger and Chad, which have now realised the danger posed by continuing to allow terrorists free movement across the borders.

The source disclosed that, “Nigerian military is reviewing strategy in the combat against terrorists to accommodate joint and combined operations with neighbouring military organisations. Massive deployment of air and amphibious assets are expected to feature in the operation. Preparatory to this mission, the Defence Headquarters has changed the General Officer Commanding the 7 Division which is the leading formation in the counter-terrorism campaign.

“The deployment for the mission is expected to facilitate the elimination of safe havens and escape routes of terrorists in or out of Nigeria.  The arrangement has enlisted the support of the military forces of neighbouring countries towards ensuring that the plan to effectively block the terrorists for elimination while they are being pounded in the ongoing counter terrorism campaign is effectively attained,” the source elaborated.

PRNigeria can reliably report that the operation will commence very soon and is expected to terminate well before the February 14 elections so that Nigerians living in every part of the country can vote in their towns and villages.

However, it is expected that innocent citizens living in the areas where the terrorists presently operate are expected to have temporarily vacated any area infested by terrorists for safe towns away from the theatre of operations.

When contacted for confirmation of this story, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, declined to give details. In a terse response, he simply declared that the military would not relent in its efforts to restore peace to every part of the country as quickly as possible but that details of such efforts would not be disclosed now.

He however admitted that all the countries bordering Nigeria are willing to compliment the efforts in Nigeria as terrorism has remained a menace or threat to all in the region.

'The year I lost my limbs was the most brilliant of my life'

Alex in hospital with Lucy and his son
In a few weeks Alex Lewis went from being the owner of a pub, to becoming critically ill and a quadruple amputee. Yet he still describes the past year as the best he's ever had.
"There are days when I wake up and I think gosh my shoulder hurts, or wow my stumps are sore, but I just keep on pushing forward," Alex Lewis explains.
He's on speakerphone as he is unable to hold a phone now he has no hands.
As well as losing his limbs, Lewis also lost his lips and nose. Surgeons have since grafted skin from his shoulder into lips leaving him, he jokes, looking like a Simpsons character and with a nose that constantly runs.
The positivity 34-year-old Lewis, from Stockbridge, Hampshire, has found over the past year has been remarkable for those close to him, and he says he feels happier now than before his illness. Many would find it hard to believe, but he says that great things have come of it.

It is incredible what the human body is able to overcome”
"It's made me think differently about being a dad, a partner, a human being," he says, and a new charity set up in his name has given him a huge impetus to help others. Despite this positive attitude, he can't do a lot of the things he once loved, like cooking and playing golf. He and his partner Lucy have lost the pub they once ran.
'Survival chance of 5%' It was in November 2013 when Lewis thought he had "man flu", but when he spotted blood in his urine, followed by blotchy, bruised looking skin he knew something more serious was happening.
It turned out to be a streptococcal infection (type A) and he was rushed into hospital in Winchester on 17 November 2013. The infection penetrated deep into his tissues and organs, and triggered blood poisoning, or sepsis, a life-threatening condition that causes multiple organ failure.

The skin on his arms and legs, and part of his face had quickly turned black and gangrenous. For his family and friends, at his bedside every day while he was on a life support machine, it was shocking to see.
But for his son Sam, just three at the time, it looked merely as though Daddy was covered in chocolate.
Lewis's infected limbs were starting to poison his body and, as soon as he was off life support, he was told he would have to have his left arm amputated above the elbow.
He says he felt no sadness or emotion at the news because the doctors were incredibly matter-of-fact. "It was a case of 'this arm is killing me so it has to go,'" he says.
Alex with Lucy and his son before he got ill Lewis with his family before his illness
It was the second week of December and although he had lost an arm, he wasn't yet out of danger. His damaged legs were beginning to poison his body and, in quick succession he had two more operations to amputate first one leg, then the other, leaving him with just one limb - his right arm.
"I processed every amputation individually," he says. "Part of me thought let's just get this process done so I can get out of hospital and home." But ultimately he says he didn't have much time to think.
His right arm had been damaged too, but doctors thought there was a chance of saving it. It took 17-and-a-half hours in an operating theatre on Christmas Eve 2013 to rebuild it. Surgeons stripped the arm to scrape the dead tissue away. Then they took 16.5ins (42cm) of his left shoulder blade, along with the skin, muscle, nerves and tissue and grafted it on to his right arm.
Having lost three limbs already, use of that remaining hand was seen as crucial by doctors and Lewis was desperate to do what he could to keep it.

"I learned along the way that all the quadruple amputees I've met say the one thing they'd kill for is a hand," Lewis says. "It means you can still do your daily stuff, get a drink, write."
But the damage proved to be too severe and, one night, while he was asleep, Lewis rolled over and snapped the arm in two.
"My hand was dangling down by my elbow," he says. His partner Lucy was devastated, and imagined a far harder life for him now he had no limbs - but Lewis says he didn't care.
"There is no point waiting for five years trying to get an arm working again," he says. "I think psychologically it would have been much more damaging to wait all that time and then lose it."

With all four limbs amputated, Lewis had to learn how to go about his new life. He could no longer get himself up and washed and dressed in the morning, so had to get used to a carer coming in once a day - but first on his to-do list was learning to walk.
He began a 10-week walking course at Queen Mary's Hospital in Roehampton but after just two weeks he surprised everyone by successfully walking on devices called "rocker pylons" - prosthetics on a short pole, with a large rocking foot.
He's been walking on them for almost three months now and says he is making great progress but still finds them awkward. "Going up stairs is difficult because of the shortness of them," he says, "and different terrains are hard."
He has chosen to use prosthetic arms and currently uses ones with hooks. His attitude is: "I might as well try what is best and then make my mind up."
